Paul started working in the building industry when he was just 15 years old as an apprentice. He went on to work for a few other local businesses, but at the age of 32, he and his wife decided to start their own business.
They employed another bricklayer and a labourer. In the first year, the business struggled, but from just tiling a small bathroom, an opportunity arose to refurbish a large Grade 1 listed farmhouse.
The project would take more than just the 3 of them, but the owner of the property liked Paul and encouraged him to expand.
Within a few months Paul employed a newly appointed team of 10 skilled tradesmen and managed the project along side professional Architects, Interior Designers and Landscape Artists.
Whilst being dropped in at the deep end, the experience proved the teams building and management skills and gave Paul and Cathy the confidence to grow and develop the business. The refurbishment was a huge success with a very happy customer and excellent reviews.
As enquiries increased and more staff employed, in 2000 Burgess Building became a Limited Company. In 2002 Burgess Building built their first “New Home” on the A421 – Maywynn Farm. This impressive bespoke 5 bedroom detached house was designed by the owner who was an engineer and his wife. It was to be their dream home. The attention to detail was fantastic and a real pleasure to build. Both customer and builder were very happy with the end result. We have since built several bespoke homes, all of which have left our customers very satisfied.
Although primarily still a “Building” company, in 2004 an opportunity arose to supply Maintenance Contract work to South Central and East Midlands Ambulance Services. Burgess Building employed a dedicated Maintenance team who managed the building and access control of over 35 stations across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. Burgess “Building and Maintenance” grew and developed into the “Commercial” sector carrying out Contract Maintenance, Office dilapidations, Office Refurbishments for many local businesses.
Over the last 20 years Burgess Building have built so many lovely projects - new houses, extensions, barn conversions and worked on some beautiful old listed buildings, one of them being them Old Gaol in Buckingham for Bucks County Council.
Now 2 decades later, our skills and services and expectations have grown with the times – we are more Environmentally Friendly than ever and our Health and Safety is at the top of our priorities along with customer satisfaction.
